I recently finished this quilt for my best friend who is due to have a baby girl later this summer. It is, hands down, one of my most favorite creations ever. Above you can see it the baby’s nursery, with her cat-brother Marvin.
I based the design with the triangles on this quilt, but I sewed it by hand and followed my gut when it came to choosing the fabrics—which is to say that I simply aimed to love (love, love!) each of the fabrics that I included.
I wanted the finished quilt to be bright, interesting, cozy, and feminine, while also being modern and not too overtly “baby” so she can use it for a long time.
The fabrics are mostly from Cloud 9 (I included three of their super soft nursery flannels) and Anna Maria Horner. The back fabric, which is a nice and calm option to the patterns on the front, is by Lotta Jansdotter. I used white Coats and Clark Button & Craft thread and I love how the stitches pop on the back.
Each night when I would sew a bit of the quilt, I got to think about how my friends lives are going to change once their little girl arrives—and how much I am already looking forward to visits where she and Linden can play together. And honestly, since I did all of this during the chaos of finalizing the sale of our house, buying a new one, and moving, the repetitive hand stitching kept me sane. I am actually really grateful that I had this project to work on!
I have plans to make Linden a quilt for her toddler bed (so I have some time!) in this same design. I have the fabrics already, but I’m taking a little break from sewing to read a few summer books:)
(If anyone wants specific names of fabrics, leave a comment or email me and I’ll get you what you need!)
